Mascots are unsettling. Giant furry gutted stuffed animal pelts with limber murderers lurking inside, doing stripteases to Ginuwine's "Pony." It's scary stuff. Now, imagine your mascot is a puppy. No, like a real live, non-human puppy. Much better, right?

Well, today, in celebration of the Yale women's basketball team's victory over Harvard at 57-52, the famed Handsome Dan was unleashed onto the court, and made a beeline straight to the huddle of players to revel in pets, tummy rubs, and Lion King reenactments. There was a moment where His Handsomeness seemed to be scrambling to get away from all the affection, but it seems that it was only to create some smiley mischief immediately afterwards. No need for jock jams, fireworks, and trampoline dunks. A pupper doing pupper things is entertainment enough.
