NORTHMIX: Grabbitz

The 22-year-old producer Grabbitz—Nick Chiari—from Buffalo, New York, has a skill set to match other young producer (writing, producing, and DJing), but he can also sing. His vocals got some major attention earlier this year when he and deadmau5 collaborated on "Silent Picture." Now, ahead of his Better With Time EP on Monstercat Records out December 11, the melodic bass producer is getting behind the decks for his first NORTHMIX.

THUMP got in touch with Grabbitz to discuss the new EP and the mix.

THUMP: What can you say about your NORTHMIX?

Grabbitz: This mix is pretty energetic and upbeat, but still maintains a lot of musicality. It showcases many of my past works, new works, and my personal taste in music.

Did it turn out how you envisioned it?
Yes, I wanted it to be representative of my style. I tried to make tempo changes as smooth as possible so the listener could enjoy a nice fluid mix.

Which songs/artists are you most excited by in this mix?
I am most excited about my latest single "Float Away," which closes out the mix. There are also some great tracks from some of my friends: Dusty Bits, Pegboard Nerds, Tisoki, Strictly Embee, Dirty Zblu.

Where does this mix take you?
The mix takes me to a mystical, magical, dubstep utopia, riddled with glow sticks and DJ friends whispering, "Hey, this is a great mix."

Where is your new EP taking your sound?
The Better With Time EP is the truest representation of my sound to date. This EP is a little more rock influenced and puts a spotlight on my vocals, while still maintaining heavy dance rhythms.
