Police Officer Talks a Man Down From the Brink of Suicide With Some Good Old Football Talk

It's noteworthy that the last thing the cop says to the jumper before taking him back from the brink is about how much he hates the Cowboys.

South Carolina police officer Michael Blackmore was faced with a difficult situation last Saturday at 3:45 AM, when he encountered a man sitting on the edge of what appears to be a highway overpass or a bridge, who said, "I'm tired of living." The man, seemingly on the verge of committing suicide, was staring down the bleak reality of existence, but was pulled back from the precipice with Blackmore's football talk. Kind of.

In a video captured by the Columbia Police Department and edited by The State, Blackmore seemingly used discussion of the gridiron to simultaneously distract the man, and give him something to look forward to. People love, football, right? So why not give it a try?

"You like watching football?" Blackmore started. "Who's your team? NFL? The Redskins? Who do they play this Sunday?"

Blackmore sees he's getting a bit of a response, and keeps teasing little bits out of the man. Apparently, he's also a South Carolina Gamecocks fan.

"You're just having a bad night tonight," Blackmore said. "But tomorrow night, when you're sitting around and you're watching the Gamecocks—or on Sunday when you're watching the Redskins play or whatever—you'll look back (like), 'Man, what was I thinking Friday night?' You're just having a bad night."

It's noteworthy that the last thing that Blackmore says to the jumper before successfully taking him back from the brink is, "I'm definitely going to pull for them when they play Dallas, because I hate Dallas." If there's anything a person in their darkest hour can associate with, it's hatred for the Cowboys.
