Italian Air Traffic Controllers' Strike Conveniently Overlaps with Italy–Sweden Game

Priorities, people.

Maybe it's unfair to say that Italian air traffic controllers went on strike because Italy was playing Sweden in the 2016 Euros today, but let's just say that Italian air traffic controllers were on strike while Italy was playing Sweden in the 2016 Euros today. Because it certainly did happen, as Agence France-Presse reports.

The strike, put on by two unions who were protesting pension plans, caused hundreds of cancelled flights all across Italy, and resulted in even more delays, as air traffic controllers left their posts two hours before kickoff at 1 PM. Their return time? Why, 5 PM—right after Italy secured a 1-0 win against Sweden. Don't worry; the law backed them up: despite ministers' efforts to prevent it, the unions were granted permission to strike by a court.

AFP also reported that bus and metro services slowed in Rome during Italy's 2-0 win over Belgium on Monday. Priorities, people.
