An aspiring model in the Toronto area has turned herself in after police issued a country-wide warrant for her arrest. Laurie Phan, 22, who was wanted in connection with a murder investigation, surrendered on Monday afternoon to police. She's been charged with first-degree murder.

The murder case that provoked the Canada-wide arrest warrant of Phan was that involving the death of Noel Williams, 27, who was shot in Markham, Ontario on February 10, 2017. According to reports, he was shot multiple times on a sidewalk in the city around 1 AM and was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead there.

Part of Williams' obituary reads: "Despite the unexpected nature of his passing, Noel was surrounded by family at the time of his passing."

Evidence at the murder scene suggested that a semi-automatic firearm was used to shoot Williams; suspect or suspects reportedly fled in a vehicle, leading police to ask witnesses to come forward. Police ended up charging one person several months later in April for first-degree murder in the death of Williams: Jasper Atienza, 28, of Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Phan has no fixed legal address, but she did list herself as being Toronto-based on a modelling portfolio site Model Mayhem. She appears to have made the profile about three years ago when she was 19, calling herself "LPhan" on the site. In the profile, she said she studied nursing at the time and had competed in the ATV Miss Asia Toronto Pageant.

"I'm interested in fashion, glamour, hair/makeup, promotional modelling, runway, fit modelling and swimwear shoots!" Phan's Model Mayhem profile reads.

The police investigation is still ongoing.
