Our Intern Did a Ritual Pulling

We took one of our Canadian interns and stabbed him in the chest with fish hooks.

We took one of our Canadian interns and stabbed him in the chest with fish hooks. Why? Because we can. Also he wanted to do it (we swear!).

A ritual pulling, where the flesh is pierced and then pulled for extended periods of time, is a way to harness endorphins and adrenaline until one enters a psychedelic trance. The millennia-old practice is held sacred by many cultures, from the Savite Hindus of India to Native American tribes along the Missouri River banks. Still, others string themselves up by hooks simply for sexual pleasure or public entertainment at freak shows.

We figured there must be something behind it, so we asked Greg, a fresh-faced editorial intern from our Montreal office, to try it out.
