There's a Petition to Get Gordie Howe on the Cover of EA Sports' NHL 17

If EA is going to honour someone, who better than Mr. Hockey?

Although the NHL season just ended with the Pittsburgh Penguins winning the 2016 Stanley Cup, the battle for the fans has just begun.

Just days after the passing of hockey legend Gordie Howe, a petition was started to change the Detroit Red Wings' new arena name from Little Caesars Arena to Gordie Howe Arena.

A more realistic petition began to pick up steam on Monday, attempting to make Gordie Howe the cover of EA Sports' NHL 17. Hockey fans were quick to support the petition, which had topped 6,000 signatures at the time of this post.

From the petition:

We want to get as many people as we can to make Mr. Hockey (Gordie Howe) the NHL 17 Cover. Gordie Howe was one of the best players to step his skates on the ice. One of the best Red Wings in History. Mr. Howe passed away not to long ago and we would like to get as many people as we can to get Gordie Howe on the Cover of NHL 17. Lets make it happen. This one is for Gordie.

EA Sports is set to unveil the winner of the cover vote between Vladimir Tarasenko and Joe Pavelski live at the NHL awards on June 22, but when hockey fans have their minds set, they don't usually go down without a fight.

Considering 2K Sports revealed Kobe Bryant as the cover of NBA 2K17 'Legend Edition' in time for his retirement, hockey fans have the right to want their own legend honoured, as well. And because Howe is maybe the greatest to ever play the game, who better than Mr. Hockey?

There has been a couple of pretty sweet cover ideas circulating around.
