Bernie Sanders Is Pulling Ahead of Hillary Clinton in Iowa, According to New Poll

Everyone from Killer Mike to MoveOn.org to a bunch of musicians in Brooklyn have jumped on board with Bernie Sanders, he's been nipping at frontrunner Hillary Clinton's heels in recent polls. But a Quinnipiac Iowa joint released Tuesday shows him actually leading the race by five points now—49 percent to Clinton's 44.

Early in the race, Clinton was so far ahead of her challengers that people were speculating that the primary season would be a "coronation," and while she's still leading in national polls, the Quinnipiac finding is pretty darn surprising. Clinton advisors who spoke anonymously to the New York Times on Tuesday said they were "anxious but not panicking about Iowa," the paper wrote.

New Hampshire, which borders Sanders's home state of Vermont, remains ready for Bernie, with a new Monmouth poll showing Sanders with a 14-point lead.

Even before these polls came out, Sanders was broadcasting confidence.

"Secretary Clinton and her campaign is in serious trouble," Sanders told reporters on Monday. "The inevitable candidate for the Democratic nomination may not be so inevitable today."
