June has been one of the crazier months in recent music memory, but the bulk of what's come out and dominated the online conversation has been rap-adjacent. As exciting as some of these moments have been, it wouldn't be wise to let them distract us from the fact that the best summertime music often comes from the Caribbean. Thankfully, dancehall titan Popcaan has always been conscious of this and started to tease out his sophomore album, Forever, last month when he released its lead single "Body So Good." Today, Poppy continued that teasing when he premiered the album's newest single "Wine For Me" with Zane Lowe on World Record.

The song, like many of his, is an instructional jam, which is already made crystal clear in its title. But as much as it features Popcaan's directions to "go round," the song also takes plenty of time to admire the women dancing to it. "I think this one will be a banger for the girls," he told Zane Lowe. "It have a special sound. Big hit songs have a sound. It's like you hear it before." On the possibility of a Rihanna collaboration, who has teased an all-dancehall album, Popcaan said "Well, I hope it come out this year still."

The true power of "Wine For Me" won't be fully realized until its pounding bass comes through on venue or impressive house party speakers. And for historical context, it sounds akin to Wayne Wonder's 2003 hit "Bounce Along," which has had its fair share of play for romantic summer dances. "Wine For Me" will likely be a 2018 summertime version of that and stamp itself for anthem status along the way. Listen to the track below.
