Check Out the Mind-Blowing New Trailer for 'Blade Runner 2049'

The sequel to Ridley Scott's iconic film hints that the struggle might be much larger than a few escaped replicants.

After a few teasers and months of speculation, the official trailer for Blade Runner 2049 dropped Monday, adding even more excitement to what has already become one of the most anticipated science-fiction films of 2017.

The trailer opens with LAPD officer K (Ryan Gosling) walking through a Westworld–like hall of android bodies. We're then officially introduced to Jared Leto's cloudy-eyed character, who welcomes a naked android into the world by wiping off some of its yellow goo. Elsewhere, gigantic sexy holograms point, futuristic guns are drawn, and buildings explode.

"Every civilization was built off the back of a disposable workforce," Leto's character says. "But I can only make so many."

The film is a sequel to Ridley Scott's groundbreaking 1982 film, Blade Runner, which starred Harrison Ford as a "blade runner" who tracks down and kills renegade androids called "replicants." Ford returns as Deckard in 2049, although the trailer hints that the struggle might be much larger than a few escaped replicants.

"The world is built on a wall that separates kind," Robin Wright, who plays an authoritative police captain, says in the trailer. "Tell either side there's no wall, you bought a war."

The original film's noir vibe and utterly stunning visuals made it one of the most influential science-fiction films to date. Needless to say Blade Runner 2049 has a lot to live up to. Luckily, director Denis Villeneuve is at the helm, whose previous films Sicario and Arrival were also acclaimed for their visual prowess.

Blade Runner 2049 hits the big screen on October 6. Check out the trailer above.
