VELD Music Festival, one of Canada's leading electronic music festivals, announced that it would issue partial refunds after the second day of the two-day event was cancelled due to extreme weather.
Customers who purchased their tickets on Ticketmaster or "other authorized points of sale" will receive a 40 percent refund of their ticket price.
"We are extremely disappointed that we had to cancel a portion of the second day of the festival, but VELD Music Festival stands by its decision to evacuate Downsview Park due to approaching high winds, lightning and hail storms in the area," INK Entertainment, VELD's organizer, said in a statement made today. "The safety of our patrons is always our number one priority."
On August 2, the second day of the festival, Toronto and other areas of Southern Ontario were placed under a thunderstorm warning by Environment Canada just before 5 PM. Not taking any chances, VELD promptly evacuated the festival grounds shortly after.
Back in June, Digital Dreams, another Toronto-based electronic music festival, cancelled the first day of its two-day event also as a safety precaution due to poor weather conditions.
