Pedro Martinez Had a Blast During his Hall of Fame Induction

Pedro Martinez was last to speak, and he was the best. Funny, proud, inspiring, he touched all the bases.

Pedro Martinez had himself a good time during his Hall of Fame day, and spent much of his pre-speech time dancing and joking around with fellow inductee Randy Johnson before getting down to business. He was last to speak, so there was plenty of time for hijinx, such as the picture above. As he waited for Rob Manfred to get up to the podium and read his plaque to the crowd when his name was finally called, Pedro danced around next to the Hall Chairman, Jane Forbes Clark.

So, before it even started, the speech was top notch, but it got better. Pedro went on to rave about his fellow inductees, including his "brother from another mother," Randy Johnson, which got a great reaction from everyone on hand, even the Big Unit. Pedro got Randy Johnson to laugh in public; that's a pretty good speech.

Still crazy-competitive, Pedro has not forgotten about losing out on the 2002 Cy Young Award, and tweaked the writers for giving it to Barry Zito instead, but eventually forgave them. He spoke in english and spanish throughout, and at one point told his fellow Dominicans to look at him as a symbol of hope. Finally, at the end of his speech, he said he might be breaking protocol, but went ahead and brought Juan Marichal up on the stage and together they posed with the Dominican Republic flag.
