Porter Robinson Changes It Up With His New Single "Sea of Voices"
You're all in for a nice surprise.
Amidst the EDM explosion that has taken over much of our fair planet, their has been an emergence—or sonic tidal wave—of young producers and DJs that I like to refer to simply as "The Young Guns." It's an ever-growing roster of talented artists, many of which are barely old enough to set foot in the nightclubs where they perform. 21-year-old North Carolinian Porter Robinson has a solid place in this crew.
Porter stormed into the scene and made his mark on the interwebs with high energy electro tracks like "Say My Name". He soon hit it big with a with the release of his Spitfire EP on Skrillex's OWSLA imprint, which hit number one on the iTunes dance charts. Oh, and his collaboration with Mat Zo, "Easy," was dropped at pretty much every festival known to man last year.
For the last six months however, Porter has been rather quiet and has slowed down his worldwide DJ gigs to finish the creation of his highly anticipated debut album, Worlds. After a short Twitter introduction, Porter pulled a curveball and released the first single off the album "Sea of Voices." To many of his fans, this track came as quite a surprise, because it's a far cry from the adreneline-fueled "complextro" style he has become known for. With ambient melodies, and an overall vibe similar to the atmopsheric tones of M83 and famed UK duo Orbital, it's clear that Porter has evolved greatly as a musician and will be working to further develop his sound with the release of this long-awaited album debut.
