365 Want to Upend Everything About GTA Rap with "Out"

We talk to the young crew about mixing grime and R&B, as well their lofty goals.

365 are a group of youthful Toronto artists whose omnivorous approach to music is novel, and, importantly, fun to listen to. Their single "Out" demonstrates this, as a distinctly Toronto Sound hook from group member Jayy Brown collides with grime-styled production and verses. Add to that the video, shot during a blizzard around the Rogers Centre Skydome, and you have a strong statement of purpose from the city's rap scene. You can watch the "Out" video below and read on for our interview with 365.

Noisey: Tell me how this collective got started, what's the mission?
365 isn't really a collective, it's more of a brotherhood. 365 is a lifestyle, 365 is an everyday grind and it's everyday music. We've been through some things we can't even talk about. Everything we did adds up to what we do now. Everything we do is a collective. We all knew each other for basically our whole lives, we've been through everything and seen it all together. At first we started off as a group, we had the best gear, we were the best ballers, we were popular in our area, people would invite 365 to parties 'cause we were live. Things we did would get picked up by other blocks, people started taking our lingo and stuff. Then we started the music thing and things just took off for us. That's how we started, and we stuck together.

"Out" is very grime influenced. Who introduced you that kind of music?
We've known about grime for a minute, a lot of people in our ends listen to grime. We don't usually try to use that sound. This song is more to tell our story.

What similarities do you guys see between London and Toronto's scenes?
They have Yawdies out there too, it's the Jamaican influence, we have the same slang and mindset. They have the same swag, too. You have to be on road, "Out all day I've been doing road". You know what they do, bro.

What's next?
Mixtape, clothing line, record label, everything! Worldwide takeover. Independent. No co-sign, came from dimes.
