Thompson, a dope-smoking, pill-popping avatar whose songs sound like a bad night out in that particular way it seems only artists from T.O. can manage to accomplish. The last we heard of Ponders was this spring's remix tape YOU'RE WELCOME but he's coming back with a new project next week, the appropriately titled RETOX. Ponders has shared the visual for the project's first single "DNTMKEME" (shouldn't that be "DNTMKM", though?) and well, it sort of looks like a very faded Riff Raff convention. Ponders and his crew party their way through a psychedelic downtown Toronto, the familiar locales of Kensington Market and Chinatown rendered ghoulish with garish blues and purples. The song itself is a warped headbanger, its hook not so much a traditional melody as it is a smeary blur of Auto-Tune straight out of the Young Thug playbook.
