The Selfie Files: Eternal Summers

What's the story behind these damn selfies, eh?

Eternal summers are everything I wish for in life, which I suppose means I should be less resistant to suggestions that I ought to move to Caliornia. BUT I'M JUST NOT READY TO GO BACK THERE. So in the meantime, I'll have to get through the East Coast winters with

Eternal Summers,

the band, and their scuzzy, sun-blasted brand of 80s-angled indie-rock. I first caught up with them playing with

a few months back. They made the BK venue they were performing at feel 72 degrees and sunny. Also a fan made them some really awesome baked goods which we all ate without ever wondering if we were about to get roofied, or poisoned, or whatever. You can glean a lot about a band from their fans. Additionally it's a testament to singer Nicole's candied tones that she can sing

"Gouge, gouge my eyes out"

and make it sound like a welcoming invitation.

Check out the Virginia band's Selfie Files, plus go see them on tour next month. Sweet.

Two singers without voices. We hosted the Love Language for a show in our small hometown of Roanoke, VA. This is a pic from the day after. The show was packed and claustrophobic which doesn't happen a lot in Roanoke. The scene is growing and perhaps we and the Love Language were feeling the excitement, giving all the vocals we had. It was a really great night!

Today I woke up knowing I had to take care of a lot of grown up responsibilities: taxes, registering the band as a business, and other personal things I've been putting off since we got back from tour. It's a weird transition when your favorite hobby becomes more of a serious part of your life. I think Graham Coxon calls it a "jobby."

Daniel and I finally visit our pal Caio at his new job at Sweet Donkey—a new coffee shop in Roanoke. Two hours later we're chatty and hyper, but it's good coffee. Pumped that younger dudes like Caio and his friends are putting a lot into the music/arts scene here which is a dire need!

A moment of total self loathing in Austin during SXSW. We all had something like the flu and it reached its pinnacle at the worst time: the week we have to play several shows a day.

Welcome to my 1983 Dodge Ram pickup truck Basically everyone in Roanoke, VA owns a truck. It's an unspoken rule.

Watching the sun set on Arroyo Canyon, TX. We got asked to play a show at a secret mansion party during SXSW. It was very nice, but alienating. Instead of hanging out by the pool, this overlook behind the back patio watching the pink sun spread its colors over the sky felt right. What can we say? We're just a bunch of nature kids!

Daniel as he sees himself! Hanging out at our friend Jamie's consignment shop called The Bazaar! Really a unique clothing consignment and record store which also hosts some really great all ages shows. A lot of bands get started here (we did) and touring bands get a good paying show between bigger cities. Love this place!
