Adamn Killa and Killavesi Go 'Bonnie and Clyde' on "Love of My Life"

The video for the duo's latest single sees them rolling around on dirt bikes, borrowing from Ja Rule-Ashanti duets and Serge Gainsbourg-Jane Birkin records.

Chicagoan 21-year-old Adamn Killa has been tuned into the future from the start, blending the laconic, soulful sound of his home city with SoundCloud's new school, iPhone lyricists: brazen, carefree, meticulously auto-tuned. His latest album, I Am Adamn, was scattergun but entertaining, flitting between different beats and styles and deliveries without ever losing focus completely. As Noisey's Kyle Kramer put it, the record ran through "a ton of ideas, creating a sonic world that is entirely its own."

But nothing on I Am Adamn was as good as "Love of My Life," his new single with his partner, Killavesi. The two have collaborated plenty—try last year's "Ballin Like Messi" and the more recent track with Jammer, "Make a Way"—but they were always trying to find their feet. "Love of My Life" feels like a genuine meeting point for their styles. Sebastien Christie's production is laid-back an unobtrusive, so the couple can deliver their lines laconically. Adamn Killa delivers half the track in the smashed, gravelly upper reaches of his range.

"Adamn and Killavesi are one of those iconic Bonnie and Clyde type couples and their voices work so well together," Christie wrote in an email to Noisey. "We wanted to make something timeless like the Ja Rule-Ashanti duets from the early 2000s, and we even referenced stuff like the Serge Gainsbourg-Jane Birkin joint albums from the 60s. The goal was to create something that would be a real modern day love duet, rather than just your typical hook with alternating verses."

The video, which you can watch at the top of the page, was directed by Will Hoopes, and it's lush, but weird enough to avoid clichés. They laze by the pool, but they also roll around the desert on a dirt bikes and wear safari-style overalls. Adamn Killa is still, clearly, feeling like Ja Rule.
