Halloween may as well be Unofficial Heavy Metal Day, given the fact that it celebrates Satan, costumes, and ominous atmospheres the same way the genre does. But while the more wailing likes of Helloween and King Diamond may be what come to mind first to celebrate the occasion, Godflesh may (still) be the best at capturing a singularly oppressive mood that goes far beyond simple theatricality. The industrial duo are emerging with their second reunion album Post Self next month, (their last album was 2014's A World Lit Only by Fire) and they've released the title track to blissfully terrorize our ears with.

The song is actually a great primer on Godflesh's sound, as detuned guitars and Justin Broadrick's screams rub up against hip-hop inspired drum loops, with everything distorted to within an inch of its life. Some hypnotic jangle sections build tension instead of providing relief from the grind, which sounds about right for these guys. Listen to "Post Self" below.
