Chris Iannetta Went to the Hospital After Taking This Pitch to the Face

It didn't look fun at all.

During the seventh inning of the Diamondbacks' win over the Pirates last night, Chris Iannetta stepped to the plate and was served up a fastball straight to the mug. It was not a pretty sight, as blood started dripping from his nose and lip immediately after taking the 93 mph pitch from Johnny Barbato.

Iannetta, a catcher, left the game early and was taken to the hospital for treatment for what manager Torey Lovullo described as a split top lip, per ESPN. Though the team hasn't updated on his condition yet, Lovullo said that the team was taking their precautions—like they would after any head trauma. The good news is that Iannetta walked himself off the field, holding a cloth up to his face.

Which is impressive because—well, just take a look at this:

Youch. Though the Diamondbacks' 11-4 victory, which included Iannetta's solo home run, might be some decent salve to that wound.
