Abby Wambach announced today that she plans to retire after 15 years on the U.S. National Team. Wambach's retirement has been expected since the U.S. won the World Cup in July, cementing her place as one of the greatest soccer players in history.

Wambach ranks first among all players, with 184 international goals scored. The six-time U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year winner played in four World Cup tournaments, two Olympics, and was named FIFA Women's Player of the Year in 2012.

Wambach's final game will be on December 16, when the U.S. faces China in New Orleans.
