This was probably bound to happen eventually. The veteran psych-pranksters Animal Collective have announced that they're hosting a new festival, called A N I M A L C O L L E C T I V E Camping Weekend. It will take place at the Fernwood Resort in Big Sur, California on September 23-24. Don't expect a fully off the grid scenario, though: if you want to rent a cabin, you can, and there's also a bar and grill on site.

They will headline both Friday and Saturday night, and be joined by a personally curated round of guests: folk musician Jessica Pratt, LA synth weirdo M. Geddes Gengras, Tri Angle artist WIFE, California lo-fi poppers The Range of Light Wilderness, and self-proclaimed "bubblegum noise" band Winter.

In 2009, the band played at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur for just 300 fans.
