NORTHMIX: LeMarquis

Smooth jazz blooms from a Busta Rhymes oldie and it's pretty much all uphill from there.

There's a time and a place for everything. Understandably, there is a time and a place to play the red solo-cup anthem, "Stand Up" by Ludacris. LeMarquis thinks that time should be any time.

LeMarquis is the French producer plucking hits from the 90s and early 2000s and turning them into multipurpose tunes. His "Stand Up" remix has Ludacris' circa-2003 afro billowing in the breeze of a sunny synth line. While his revisal of "You Should Let Me Love You" by R&B dream-boy Mario is the psalm of a wine-stained ladies night.

Although his remix work is the catalyst to his current following, LeMarquis also releases original tracks and vocal covers, where his true talent really shines. Having shared stages and dockets with names like Bondax and The Magician, LeMarquis is quickly gliding from the French electronic scene and into global future beats glory.

The old-school revivals continue on his Northmix. Within the first few minutes, a nugget of smooth jazz blooms from the refrain of Busta Rhymes "Dangerous" and it's shockingly digestible. It's pretty much all uphill from there.

Marinate in the R&B and hip-hop guilty pleasures of the past with LeMarquis' Northmix above because, well, it's Friday dammit.
