Penguins' Jake Guentzel Scored First NHL Goal on First Shot, and His Family Lost Their Shit

That's a great sports moment.

Jake Guentzel scored his first NHL goal on his first shift with the first shot of his career on Monday. His family, understandably, completely lost their shit, most notably his brother.

Starting on a line alongside Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin, Guentzel, just seconds into the first shift of his NHL career, picked up speed on the left side before taking a pass from Kessel. His quick shot fooled New York Rangers netminder Antti Raanta between the legs, and at the same time almost sent his family into hysteria.

The 22-year-old was recalled and summoned for his NHL debut after Chris Kunitz was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury Tuesday. The Penguins' third-round pick becomes the fifth players in franchise history to score his first NHL goal on his first shift, joining a group that includes Penguins legend and owner Mario Lemieux, and the not-so-legendary Luca Caputi.

Lighting the lamp just 1:02 into his Penguins opener, it was the fastest goal ever by a Pens player in an NHL debut. And, just to pile it on, Guentzel scored his second career NHL goal just over 13 minutes into the same period.

Guentzel, the No. 77 overall pick in 2013, spent three seasons with the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he was better than a point per game through 108 contests over three seasons. He was the AHL's rookie scoring leader with 17 points in 16 games before being recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to replace Kunitz.
