Eight of the 10 victims in the Toronto van attack were women

Eight out of the 10 people killed in a deadly van attack in Toronto on Monday were women, police revealed in a press conference on Friday, where they also released the names of all the victims.

Alek Minassian, 25, has been charged with 10 counts of first degree murder in the deaths of So He Chung, 22, Ji Hun Kim, 22, Geraldine Brady 83, Chu Min Kang, 45, Anne Marie D’Amico, 30, Mary Elizabeth Forsyth, 94, Andrea Bradden, 33, Munir Abdo Habib Najjar, 85, Renuka Amarasingha, 45, and Dorothy Sewell, 80.

Since Monday, investigators from the Toronto police homicide division worked to h confirm victims’ identities and to notify their families.

Police also revealed that since the incident, two more people who were injured but not transported to the hospital at the time of the attack, had come forward — a 21-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman.

Two more attempted murder charges will be laid against Minassian at his next court appearance, bringing the total number of attempted murder charges to 16.

So far, police have interviewed 178 witnesses and have another 100 interviews to complete.

They’ve also executed a search warrant at Minassian’s home.

A vigil for the victims has been schedule for Sunday in Toronto’s Mel Lastman Square. A campaign called #TorontoStrong, which is raising money for the victims and their families, had raised over $1.2 million by Friday.
