While being thrown into the slammer sucks for some, others see it as an escape from an otherwise monotonous life. At least that&#x2019;s what this former prisoner who was out on bail seems to believe.

Gnanaprakasam, a 52-year-old from Chennai, India, had been imprisoned in Puzhal jail for three months after he was caught for theft. He was released on bail on June 29 and allowed to go home to his wife and kids, which should&#x2019;ve made him feel ecstatic after being held in a lock-up. Except, this guy got so used to jail amenities and living his best prison life that he [deliberately stole a bike and petrol](https://www.indiatoday.in/crime/story/chennai-jail-tambaram-food-friends-friends-steals-bike-petrol-prison-1567288-2019-07-12) and made sure he was captured on CCTV footage just to go back. And according to what he told the police, it&#x2019;s because he missed the food and his prison friends.

Ex-inmates in Queensland are intentionally breaching their parole conditions so they can return to jail with drugs hidden inside their bodies, according to a union representing the state's prison officers. Michael Thomas from the Together Union said the practice of people strategically smuggling contraband into prisons was so prolific and lucrative that it was "almost an industry", the <a href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-10/drugs-being-smuggled-into-prisons/11289084" target="_blank">ABC</a> reports. "We know there's a big problem with people who have breached their parole, and they are having to do a stint in prison. People know the penalty for breaching parole is to do a further stint inside—and it can be quite lucrative to take that risk,” Michael said. "In some cases, people are stood over and pressured to take that risk to bring drugs back into the system, effectively inside them." Prison officers are fighting to crack down on the smuggling method and stem the flow of drugs into prisons—but intense overcrowding and a lack of sufficient resources in Queensland’s jail system makes it hard for authorities to effectively identify and weed out offenders. While full body scanners are used at prisons in Victoria and New South Wales, Queensland facilities rely on strip searches to find any illicit materials that might be located on or inside the bodies of inmates. ''It's not as humiliating for a prisoner to experience a body scan and it's going to be a more effective way of identifying if there is a forbidden substance inside of a person,'' said Helen Blaber, from Prisoner Legal Service Queensland. ''I suspect body scanning is one of the priorities that are not being met, but there are many priorities not being met, and are being exacerbated by overcrowding in Queensland prisons.'' Even if guards perform a strip search and find an inmate is thought to have hidden something internally, only doctors are allowed to conduct body searches under the Corrective Services Act—adding another layer of difficulty when it comes to clamping down on drug smuggling. "You can see evidence that they've secreted evidence within them," said Michael. "The problem is, prison officers are prohibited by law from bringing that material out—it's prohibited by law." And while ideally the inmate would be isolated until a doctor could perform the body search, Michael points out that ''all the spare spots in the jail are used to house the 150 per cent over-capacity prisoners that we have." Michael claimed the prisoners were leaving prison on parole and ingesting or inserting drugs to sell or distribute when upon re-entry. But this is just one way that illicit substances are entering the prison system. Dealers and users alike are constantly trying to get contraband into jails via visitors, mail packages, and—somewhat less successfully—<a href="https://www.vice.com/en_au/article/mbd88a/stop-trying-to-fly-drugs-into-prisons-with-drones" target="_blank">drone drops</a>. The idea that inmates have effectively become their own mules is just one more thing for the authorities to worry about. So, she had her dating app hookup jailed after he refused to marry her post a one-night stand and began ghosting her instead. 29-year-old Rama Reddy matched with a woman he worked with at a private tech firm in Bengaluru. The two exchanged texts and continued their online courtship for a month before having sex. But right after, the woman asked Reddy to marry her. Reddy turned down the proposal saying he “wasn’t ready for commitment”. And when she continued to pursue him, he blocked her on WhatsApp. That’s when shit hit the roof. The woman complained to the police, alleging that she had felt forced to have sex with him and felt he had misled her into believing he wanted more than just to get into her pants. And because having sex with someone by <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-47959684" target="_blank">promising to marry them after is considered rape in India</a>, the man was thrown into jail immediately after. "It was literally the morning after the night that he was breaking up with me. I felt so disgusted that I'd been used," the woman <a href="https://bangaloremirror.indiatimes.com/bangalore/cover-story/bengaluru-techie-looking-for-a-one-night-stand-on-tinder-lands-in-jail/articleshow/69832351.cms" target="_blank">told Bangalore Mirror</a>, talking about how the accused had pretended to be nice initially but didn’t want anything more than a physical relationship. "These type of incidents should not be repeated with other people using dating apps. Women should not be used as a source of physical pleasure," she added. Dating apps may be designed to help you find your significant other, but just like the fuckboys that often frequent them, they can’t always be trusted. And even while this case may seem more like a morality issue of feeling the need to marry someone just because you slept with them, it’s pretty common for people to <a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/most-people-dont-use-tinder-for-love-or-sex-heres-why-they-really-use-it-2017-03-23" target="_blank">use these apps for casual sex</a>. While the charges under which this man was arrested are still unclear, Tinder has time and again been <a href="https://theprint.in/culture/indian-women-are-getting-assaulted-on-tinder-dates-and-no-one-knows-how-to-stop-it/151022/" target="_blank">accused of allowing sexual predators</a> on its app. So even if you’re swiping right to find your Mr Right, it’s important to not only acknowledge the dangers of dating apps, but also accept that not everyone you hook up with is necessarily going to stick around for pillow talk.
