There were chaotic scenes at one of New York's busiest commuter hubs Monday, after a homemade pipe bomb detonated in what officials are describing as an "attempted terrorist attack."

Five people were injured by the device, which exploded during rush hour. It was strapped to Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi man who had been living in Brooklyn.

Footage of the blast, captured by CCTV, shows Ullah walking amongst other commuters before a sudden explosion. Once the smoke clears, he can be seen lying on his back—injured, but alive.

Apprehended by police after the incident, Ullah told investigators he was motivated to act by Israeli actions in Gaza, according to CNN. He is currently being treated for burns and cuts at New York's Bellevue Hospital.
