Grimes and Elon Musk's Jarring Relationship Is Birthing Some Beautiful Memes

Way to go, internet.

While many of us struggled with the news that Grimes and Elon Musk are, somewhat inconceivably, dating, the internet wasted no time turning their holy (unholy?) union into a myriad of memes. Haters and fans alike flooded Twitter with images of "Elon Musk and Grimes" at the Met Gala, joked about what their conversations are like, and expressed betrayal at the thought of the indie darling coupling with a Silicon Valley billionaire.

The most popular posts are those comparing the new couple (should we call them Grusk? Grelon? Mimes?) to other nerdy guy and alternative girl couples. Take this one, of Gideon Graves (Jason Schwartzman) and Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World:

Or Janis and Damian from Mean Girls:

There's a lot of live action and animated material out there to draw from:

Since there's a non-zero chance that Elon is actually an evil genius plotting to take over the world (not to mention Mars), some of these comparisons hit almost too close to home.

But pray tell internet, now that we've established an archetype for Elon and Grimes's relationship dynamic, what on Earth does the darling couple talk about?

Ah yes, that seems about right.

There's also a whole contingent of Grimes fans out there who are feeling downright betrayed (as I was) that their beloved "anti-imperialist baby wolverine" seems to be adopting a more, shall we say, moderate persona, at least on Twitter.

Honestly, I'm trying not to judge another woman's choice of romantic partner, even though I did have a strong reaction to their coupledom. That said, for an artist who's an outspoken advocate of pussy power, I'm surprised she's into a dude who ensconces himself in such a male-dominated universe. Here's hoping Grimes can broaden Elon's worldview…

Great, now that we've all aired our "Grusk" grievances, shall we agree to just let the kids live?
