The Olympics was pretty spectacular this weekend, but you were too busy making a spectacle of yourself to notice.

THE OLYMPICS WAS PRETTY SPECTACULAR
Great Britain's doing great and Usain Bolt just is

Did you know that, as of Sunday night, 162 people had won gold medals at London 2012? That's a lot, right? I guess stuff like France's Emilie Fer winning the women's kayak single sub-event in the canoe slalom category just kind of flies under the radar. That said, you can understand why media coverage has tended to hone in on certain people. On Saturday night, Team GB's involvement in the Games reached its probable apex when Jessica Ennis won the women's heptathlon, Greg Rutherford came first in the men's long jump and Mo Farah was the first guy to cross the line in the 10,000 metres. Despite the fact no one's realistically gonna give enough of a shit about running or jumping in a fortnight's time for it to seem like anything other than a weird daydream, it was actually pretty enthralling. The British football team also had the good grace to crash out on penalties to remind people that what they were seeing was real. Then, on Sunday, Andy Murray beat Roger Federer in the men's singles tennis final and ultra-mobile horse-man Usain Bolt set a new Olympic record while winning the 100 metres. Again, the spectacle was impressive in both events. A bunch of other British people and humans who aren't from this country won medals in other things, but if you care about that then you already know, because there isn't anything else going on in the world at the moment. Is there? War
IT SEEMS LIKE THINGS ARE COMING TO A HEAD IN SYRIA
The rebel Free Syrian Army are waiting nervously for the government to attack

Fighting in the protracted disposition of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has well and truly centred on the country's largest city of Aleppo. Rebel forces there have essentially taken control, but now they're waiting for the government to retaliate. When Assad does, most likely with a huge amount of ground troops and tanks as well as the air forces that he's taken to employing of late, it's not going to be very much fun. Religion
A TERRORIST ATTACKED A SIKH TEMPLE IN THE US
Six worshippers are dead and others might be too soon

A gunman killed six Sikhs at a temple in Wisconsin on Sunday. Though they say it's too early to suggest a motive, police have described it as an act of "domestic terrorism" and the FBI are investigating. After shooting a bunch of people inside the gurdwara, the gunman – described by CNN as a 6ft white guy with a bald head and a 9/11 tattoo – turned his weapon on police who were helping out the injured. The suspect was shot dead at the scene by police and three people remain in hospital in a critical condition. Weather

It rained a lot

Parts of Wales, South West England and the Scottish borders flooded this weekend after torrential storms. There are loads of other places that might flood today. If you wanna know where, read the BBC's story on it.
