Watch The Avengers Take Oz

Cowardly Thor? Tin Man Ultron? Melbourne artist Darren Wallace is messing with our trailers in the best ways.

Melbourne-based artist Darren Wallace's latest work (above) mashes modern and classic fantasy, pairing Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron with the 1939 version of The Wizard of Oz. Watch the Tin Man turn against his travelling pals: a cowardly lion (Thor) and brainless scarecrow (Captain America). At least Dorothy (Black Widow) has the courage to take action, riding into the fray on her flashy modern motorbike.

“These parodies are more amusing when you take something that's supposed to be serious and flip it,” Darren told The Creators Project. “Tin Man seemed like the most opposite and unexpected replacement for Ultron, but he turned out to be a creepy badass, so I went with that angle.” Darren attributes his career as a digital animator to Jurassic Park, being so blown away by the dinosaurs in the original film that he saw it three times at the cinema. It wasn’t until 2011 that he realised being an animator was actually achievable and enrolled in a digital animation degree.

Now, working around his freelance commissions, he dedicates his spare time to mashing together his favourite things—whether it be Star Wars and Disney, or Jurassic World and motorbikes— but as far as future projects go the artist is tight lipped. "I do have new videos in the works and maybe some collaborations with well known YouTubers in the future,” he teases. "I can't say much else, but watch this space!"
