Day 268: "Stupid Wild" feat. Lil Wayne and Cam'ron – Gucci Mane, The State Vs. Radric Davis, 2009

Yesterday, I mentioned this song featuring Cam'ron and Lil Wayne on Gucci Mane's debut album, so today it is the Song of the Day for the Year of Lil Wayne. Crazy how that works!

But it's worth mentioning because I have always seen these three as spiritual kin: quirky regional rappers who were easy to dismiss as unserious lyricists because of their subject matter but who, in fact, perfected the craft in far more idiosyncratic ways than almost any MCs ever. All three are wildly talented and prolific, and all three could lay a claim to being the best rapper alive at some point between 2004 and 2009. So naturally, this song fuckin' rips.

Gucci says "Someone dissed me yesterday, what I'm 'posed to do? Go cry?" And Wayne says "Wilder than a jaguar wilin' in a Jaguar / please don't play with me, I'll put that pistol on your grandpa." And Cam says "your wifey, well we use her for her food stamps / ain't no big deal, but she keep the fridge filled / eggs scrambled, cheese grilled, cold juice the grits kill!" And I say go listen to it now.
