Prince Jammy's 1985 "Sleng Teng" instrumental for Wayne Smith is one of the most famous dancehall riddims ever. Part of its legacy is the fact that many consider it to be the inaugural track of the digi-dancehall style, in which the Jamaican sound was first computerized. Berlin-based musician Kevin Martin, best known for his work as The Bug and the group King Midas Sound, has long expressed his love of dancehall in general and digi-dancehall specifically, so it was only right for him to take on "Sleng Teng" and give it the signature Bug touch.

With his new EP, The Bug Vs Sleng Teng, the producer will dish out four new versions of the riddim, two of which—"Opi Teng" and "Skag Teng"—you can stream below. In signature Kevin Martin fashion, the produced posted to Twitter this morning saying, "the other 2 are even more f-cked," so it looks like the fun is just beginning.

Back in May, Martin posted about the EP on his Facebook: "Four tracks of electronic weirdness..pretty much impossible to pin down. Def a Bug teng..Truly future ragga for alien thinkers…Most people will find the link to Jammys original hard to locate, but it makes sense in my twisted mind…lol..Variations on a deadly riff theme, where nothing survives from the original..Steppin off into oblivion.."

Elektron—a label run by the music hardware and software manufacturer Elektron Grammofon—will release the EP in November, with all proceeds going to charity, FACT reports.
