Paraguay Authorities Raid CONMEBOL Offices in FIFA Probe

You can't run from the D.O.J.

In conjunction with the ongoing US and Swiss-led FIFA probe, police in Paraguay entered the Asuncion offices of South American football confederation CONMEBOL today, according to the Associated Press.

Last year, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted several soccer officials and businessmen—including former CONMEBOL presidents Juan Angel Napout, Nicolas Leoz, and Eugenio Figueredo—in an alleged bribery scandal pertaining to broadcast rights for Copa America games.

According to a statement from the Paraguay Public Ministry, investigators are searching for documents and digital evidence related to the FIFA probe.
