A Chat With London Grammar

GROUP SINGALONG: “You’re not the boss of me nowwww”

Noisey: What’s your first memory of music?

Hannah: I don’t remember the sound but I do really vividly remember an album cover, and it had three penguins on it and I think they were called the Penguin Orchestra. I remember dancing around to that album with my sister when I was very small. That is probably my earliest memory.

Dot: I guess when you have any first childhood memories they are quite fragmented and I remember the lullaby thing that was on the side of my bed, it looked like a half moon, and I still remember the song that it played. And then I remember when my dad was playing the Pink Floyd “Another Brick in the Wall” record, you know the bit that goes: “Hey you won’t have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat!”

Dan: Probably when my Dad played records when I was a kid, such as David Bowie. That was the first time I sort of realised I was enjoying listening to music rather than the first time I actually heard it.

What are your first memories seeing a British artist perform either on TV or in the flesh?

Dot: I’m not sure actually, I’m sure I saw a lot of stuff on TV. I remember my first gig was a band called InMe. That was my first proper teenage rock gig.
