Africa Longs for a Nirvana Christmas Number One

The video these Malawi guys sent us proves it.

The race for Christmas number one is over? No one told Africa. We all get sent some strange things on the internet, but I never thought I’d open my emails to find that a group of Malawian guys had sent me a video highlighting a cause that’s closer to their heart: the cause of Nirvana. Poverty, civil war, disease, not everyone in Bob Geldof’s continent is worrying about these things. Some people just want to see "Smells Like Teen Spirit" make it to Christmas number one in the UK. Unfortunately for Malawi, with Gareth Malone and his brave wives surging towards the top spot, old “I hate myself and I want to die” will probably have to settle for languishing down in the top 20 with the X Factor song and whatever prayer Cliff Richard is releasing, but he’d be happy to know that, in a pocket of Africa, a bunch of guys have got his back.
