Our friends at Grolsch Film Works have a website where you can find out what they’ve been up to and read/watch interesting stuff about films. Every week we'll be plucking the highlights. This is that.
JONATHAN GLAZER'S 'UNDER THE SKIN' GETS A NEW TRAILER
We were blown away by Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin when it screened at Venice last month (find out why). Arriving nine long years after his last film, Birth, and thirteen years after his acclaimed Ray Winstone vehicle Sexy Beast, the hauntingly atmospheric and unique sci-fi follows Scarlett Johansson's Laura, an enigmatic alien in human form who's traveling through Scotland, seducing men along the way and... well, doing other stuff to them.
IN FOCUS: THE CINEMATOGRAPHY OF ROGER DEAKINS
This week sees the release of Prisoners, which features the work of legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins. Considering he's worked on projects as high profile as The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Big Lebowski (1998), it's really a logical impossibility that you could be here, reading this article, without having seen one of his movies. Although this stalwart has been nominated for ten Oscars, he has yet to snag a victory. When he lost out to Claudio Miranda for Life of Pi at this year's Oscars, people got so angry the Queen pretty much had to intervene and give him a CBE.
TEN FILMS TO CATCH AT THE LONDON FILM FESTIVAL
Ahead of the London Film Festival (9-20 October), we've put together a juicy selection of treats featuring films from both big-name directors and first-timers. With the festival screening a whopping total of 234 fiction and documentary features, we thought we'd lend a hand and point you in the direction of those desired must-sees. Tick them off as you go..
JOE LAWLOR AND CHRISTINE MALLOY TALK 'MISTER JOHN'
Bangkok has always been a city ridden with clichés of drunken Americans encountering transsexuals on a wild weekend and lonely men in a mid-life crisis looking to find solace in a purchased playmate. But what writer-director duo Joe Lawlor and Christine Malloy did with Mister John is acknowledge the city’s infamy and turn it on its head to become the location of a quiet, but interesting character study about a man escaping his broken marriage and the temptation he feels to take his recently deceased brother’s life.
We spoke to the husband-and-wife team about identity, moving from theatre to film and nabbing Aiden Gillen from Game of Thrones.

Kevin Smith Is Adapting a Gumtree Ad Into a Movie
I don't know if you've read this internet-famous Gumtree ad calling for a flatmate who could stay rent-free on the condition they regularly dressed as a walrus. I'm really hoping you have since my Dad e-mailed it to me, and if you're more behind the times than my Dad, it's cause for some serious concern. Well, Kevin Smith is definitely as cool as my Dad and is using the ad as inspiration for his brand new horror movie, Tusk. Can you guess what the plot will be? Yes, you were right, it's about a mad scientist wanting to sow a victim into a giant walrus costume. Logically. If this sounds like Smith's gone insane, don't worry. Apparently Tusk is basically only a warm-up in the director's chair for Clerks III. That's a real special kind of warm-up though, Smith.
