The Outlook Team Look Back on a Decade of Fantastic Festival Moments

From Action Bronson's body slam, to Congo Natty performing "Notorious"—these are the moments that made it!

For a decade now, the crew behind Outlook—which bills itself as Europe's leading soundsystem culture festival—have been hopping on a cheap flight to the Dalmatian coast in order to put on a proper party down in Pula, Croatia, and to be honest, if you're going to throw a party anywhere, it might as well be Croatia because Croatia is hot, sunny, and very cheap to get pissed in. Perfect.

It's not all about the very reasonably priced pints, though, and ever since its inception Outlook's prided itself in bringing the biggest and best names in grime, D&B, bass music and pretty much everything else with a solid pulse, over for a long weekend of boat parties and beyond. This year sees them showcasing the talents of the diverse likes of Wiley, the Bug, Princes Nokia, Levelz, and Nidia Minaj, amongst a whole host of other huge talents.

To celebrate that all-important 10th birthday, why not let the team walk you back through the sands of time, stopping along the way to pick out their very favourite Outlook moments and festival anthems to date. We can only wonder what'll come up trumps at the 2017 edition…

2008: Quest - "Forever"

This being dropped on a boat while looking out over the serene scenes of Petrcane was the first moment of actually taking stock of the event's first year and really realising what was going on around us. Every year since there has been one track that takes me out of the madness of the event and realise what we had created!

2009: The Twinkle Brothers' debut

The first year we had The Twinkle Brothers—the legendary Jamaican duo—over to play. It was on the Sunday night, there'd been a little but of rain and the whole live area was heaving. We're sure 80% of the crowd were seeing them for the first time but both the artists and audience wound each other up into the most intense release. The highlight was them doing "Faith Can Move Mountains."

2010: The Congo Natty crew closing the main stage with "Notorious" by Turbulence

In trying to close the stage down on the Saturday night there was the usual push back from the audience and the artists wanting to keep on going! When they suggested playing this tune as a live vocal version, well, we couldn't say no!

2011: The Bug ft Killa P and Flowdan - "Skeng"

We made out way to front of house to hear this being played on the Martyn Audio system on the Harbour stage. It was the first time we had heard weight like that in an arena that size and we knew we had found our new main stage soundsystem!

2102: Fat Freddy's Drop

They headlined that year. Incredible scenes, say no more.

2013: Pharoahe Monch and Mos Def team up

An amazing performance from Pharoahe Monch on the Main Stage peaked as Mos Def invited himself to join to do an impromptu live version of OH NO! Mos Def had performed the night before and was just there enjoying himself at the festival that night, it was amazing to see two friends having such fun on stage with each other.

2014: Action Bronson's body-slam

See above!

2015: D Double E - "Street Fighter Rididm"

There was madness in the mosh when the one and only EZ took to the beach that year, dropping loads of old dubstep and grime classics.

2016: Stormzy braves the elements

Stormzy caused a genuine storm on the final night of last years festival.

Outlook 2017 takes place in Pula, Croatia between the 7th and 10th of September. More info is available here.
