Greater Manchester Police were called to help a man who'd sleepwalked naked out of his hotel room at about 4AM on Sunday. After a taxi driver who the naked man had approached rang the police, officers tried to cover the man up with their jackets.

"Officers were satisfied that it was a case of somnambulism, and not a dare," a police source told the Manchester Evening News. "The person involved was grateful to the officers for their help, saw a funny side to what had happened, and even asked for a selfie with the officers (when they were fully clothed) as a memento of their unusual encounter with GMP."

Police escorted the man back to his hotel.

Afghan intelligence officials said Sunday that Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed by a drone airstrike in a border region of Pakistan on Saturday.

"Taliban leader Akhtar Mansour was killed in a drone strike… His car was attacked in Dahl Bandin," tweeted government Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah. By Sunday afternoon the US government had not confirmed the death, and the Taliban had not released a statement confirming or denying the reports.

Mansour's deputy, Sirajuddin Haqqani, has already been named as his possible successor, if his death is to be confirmed by the Taliban.

They'd hidden the drugs in a furniture shipment from Pakistan

Three men were sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison after trying to smuggle 28kg of heroin, worth £6 million, inside boxes of furniture shipped from Pakistan to Liverpool.

Their shipping container was intercepted by police in April 2012, and they were sentenced in court last Thursday.

Investigators watched as the furniture was initially delivered to Abdul Wahid and Mohammed Naiem Yaqub, before the third man Hafiz Akhtar allegedly dropped off part of the consignment at a storage unit in Leeds.

"This was an intricate concealment," said the regional director of Border Force North Region, "but thanks to the vigilance of our Border Force officers in Liverpool we helped stop these dangerous drugs finding their way to the streets of the UK."
