Pay your respects to Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins at Hotel Street

Celebrate his life with gigs, tattoo art exhibits and special offers all this week at the London venue.

Today is an important day – wanna know why? Of course you do. It’s Sailor Jerry Day – the day, 39 years ago, that the world lost tattoo master Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins. Collins is a big deal in tattoo circles and inspired the rum that bears his name.

This week, Hotel Street will be laying on a shed load of gigs and events in honour of Collins. Kicking off proceedings is Sean Spits, who will be hitting the Hotel Street stage tonight (Tuesday, 12th June) with support from The Black Jaspers. Doors are at 7.30pm.

From tomorrow (Wednesday, 13th June), Hotel Street will host Old Ironsides Hour – named after Collins’ radio talk show that was broadcast back in the day on KTRG Honolulu. Each night from 6PM – 7PM until Sunday, the 17th of June, you can grab bar specials and 20 percent off selected exclusive items from the Hotel Street store.

If you need even more motivation to stick your head round the door, Hotel Street is exhibiting some of Collins' original tattoo art for the first time in Europe. Henk Schiffmacher, who curated the exhibition, is in town on Wednesday, the 13th of June to host a late-night viewing of Collins old-school American tattoo art and hardcore tattoo fans can catch a free screening of Hori Smoku which sees Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins in all his glory on Saturday, the 16th June at 3PM.

And if that wasn’t enough, the week-long celebrations will be topped off with a gig on Saturday, the 16th of June from Bo Ningen.

What more do you want? Hotel Street closes its doors for the final time at the end of this month, so get down there this week and pay your respects.

Advance tickets for gigs are available via www.facebook.com/sailorjerryUK or in person from the Hotel Street store counter during the hours of midday and 7PM each day. Access to the late-night exhibition viewing and free film screening will be on a first come, first served basis.
