A Lesson from Noel Gallagher on Quietly Stacking Your Receipts

Turns out he's been donating "Don't Look Back in Anger" royalties to families affected by the Manchester Arena attack.

In the wake of the suicide bombing that took place after an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on Monday 22 May, Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger" became somewhat of an unofficial anthem for the city's recovery. During a vigil for the victims, an impromptu singalong of the song spread across the crowd, and it was covered by Coldplay and Ariana Grande at the One Love Manchester concert last Sunday:

After the concert, Liam Gallagher, who showed up to perform Oasis' "Live Forever" with Coldplay, had some choice words for his brother Noel, who was absent from proceedings (much to the fist-clenching chagrin of OG Oasis fans who were hoping, against all logic, for a reunion). Basically Liam's sentiments amounted to telling Noel to "play your tunes for the kids you sad fuck," which OK, I guess this feud really isn't over yet.

It turns out, however, that though Noel couldn't make it to the concert, he has been donating the royalties from increased sales of "Don't Look Back in Anger" – which, you know, he wrote – to the families of those affected, according to his mate and apparent defender of his honour, Radio X host Gordon Smart.

"It's only right to point out, and I don't think this is public knowledge because I'm sure [Noel] would never mention it, but I found out today that as soon as 'Don't Look Back in Anger' started to appear spontaneously at the vigils, he made sure all the royalties went back to the families," Smart said. "That was before any gig was mentioned." Noel, it seems, has receipts.

Shockingly enough, it appears that Liam tweeted too soon, and also kind of confirms that the Gallagher brothers literally do not speak to each other, which is probably bad news for anyone else (includes: me) still hoping for a reunion in future. Perhaps, though, something even more seemingly impossible might happen: Liam Gallagher might actually apologise to his brother. The times we live in, man.
