Everyone's nerdy about something. It's called "having a passion" and it's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it's something to be celebrated, like those people who make papier mache dolls of Goldie, or all the "Scandi-geeks" who got together in London last weekend to talk about how much they love Nordic fiction, film and TV.
With that in mind, I thought I'd have a wander around and ask some strangers a question: "What's your biggest nerd topic?"
Davis: Music production.
VICE: Any part of music production in particular?
Yeah, I like making beats, engineering and trying new things.
And you feel that's a geeky thing? I thought being a music producer was supposed to be cool?
Emily: Probably nights out, but that’s about it. I'll dress up as the geeky schoolgirl on occasion.
No – as in, is there anything you get particularly obsessive about?
Does OCD count? That’s not really geeky, is it?
Well, it’s obsessive, I guess.
I actually I read a lot. I read sci-fi, mostly.
Okay, that’s quite geeky.
Have you heard of David Eddings?
It rings a bell.
I read his whole series
Yeah, that counts.
Christina: I’ve been stuck on spread sheets for the last four hours now. That’s all I have to say.
You get geeky about spread sheets?
A little bit.
That’s pretty niche.
I'd say it’s pretty boring.
Kirstie: Pretty much everything
Wow, OK. Where do you want to start?
I’m quite geeky about US crime dramas – I watch pretty much all of them
Have you got a favourite?
Criminal Minds – it's about the FBI behavioural analysis unit.
Yeah, that's pretty geeky in itself.
Tyrone: Probably, if anything, my car. My wife says I don't treat anything better than my car. She says I spend more time with it than her and spend more money on it than her.
What do you geek out hardest on, car-wise?
Everything little thing about it
What kind of car do you have?
An old Mercedes. I like my retro cars.
