Kiefer Sutherland, Bonafide Country Musician, Will Play Glastonbury 2017

Forget what you thought you knew about actor Kiefer Sutherland. You know: 24, Jack Bauer, The Lost Boys. Forget all that. Erase it from your memory. Because the artist formerly known as actor Kiefer Sutherland is actually actor-musician Kiefer Sutherland, and he's bringing his brand of extremely awkwardly performed country-rock all the way to Glastonbury 2017 baby!

As a Music Fan, you may or may not know that Big Kief released an album last year. That album is called Down in a Hole (because excuse me but did you know he does country music?) and it was released via Ironworks. Yes, that would indeed be the record label he also owns, and whose roster includes a whopping five other artists, so absolutely nobody could accuse this of being a vanity project! Kiefer, to his credit, is serious about this though. "I'm aware of the stigma attached to actor-musicians," he told the Guardian last year. "I promise you, every time I hear someone talk about an actor doing this, my eyes roll in the back of my head, too. For me, though, this is something that is absolutely imperative to what I want to do with the rest of my life."

And so today, The Musician Kiefer Sutherland adds another string to his country guitar: he's been announced as an act for this year's Field of Avalon at Glastonbury, alongside such luminaries as Scouting for Girls and Birdy (in all fairness though, this stage fully bangs via Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Busted and the Hot 8 Brass Band all making appearances). Get a taste of what the lucky Glastonbury punters will be getting below:

Rock and absolute roll.

Though it's as yet unconfirmed whether or not Kiefer will be appearing with a full band (sponsored by Samsung) in order to give the audience the performance of the festival, and indeed of their lives, he's now become one of the weekend's most anticipated acts either way. I for one am just sad that some of his Hollywood man-of-a-certain-age counterparts have not also been invited to showcase their musical sides by Emily Eavis and co.

Where, for example, is Hugh Laurie, who brings a touch of the deep South to the House (lmaooo) with a completely different put-on American accent, despite being from literal Oxford? Where are the Bacon Brothers, formed by – you've guessed it! – Kevin Bacon and his brothers, with their witty lyricism ("oh my god, where did she get that body / what's she got on her iPod?")? Where, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, are Kevin Costner and Modern West?? Sort it out Glastonbury, the people are counting on you to bring us the quality late-career conceit acts we deserve.
