Watch the Longest Hoverboard Ride in History

Hoverboard technology is advancing faster—and farther—than ever.

A Quebec man has broken the Guinness world record for longest distance flown on a hoverboard. Designer Catalin Alexandru Duru spent the last year building a propeller-based vehicle (sorry Hendo fans) that acts kind of like a giant, gyroscopically-controlled quadcopter—or the hoverbike we covered last year—and flew it 905 feet and two inches over Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada, blasting past the previous record of 164 feet. His board, which he claims can be used over land as well as water, maintained a height of about 15 feet above the surface.

In the video's description, Duru says, "The first real-life hoverboard. The machine was built and designed by me, Catalin Alexandru Duru. I am the first man to create and fly a working prototype. I will showcase that stable flight can be achieved with a machine one can stand on and control with their feet, just like in the movie Back to the Future Part II. In our case, the machine is propeller-based.The prototype can be used anywhere, but is usually tested over water because of how dangerously high it can fly (which is ironic considering that the movie joked that it can't)."

We're curious about how one lands the vehicle without a lake, but we still totally want one either way.
