Dua Lipa was the musical guest on yesterday's Saturday Night Live, performing her chart-topping hit "New Rules" and the saccharine ballad "Homesick."
Both performances were ultimately professional, bordering on workmanlike. "New Rules" is a harder song to deliver than its catchy melody suggests, and the London-born singer jumped between registers competently, marching back and forth and curling her upper lip as she went. And "Homesick" really can sound mawkish. Having Lipa sit atop a piano on a dimly-lit stage didn't do much to break it away from the Bette Midler-esque cliché.
Watch both performances below. Saturday Night Live will take a break for the next month to accommodate the Winter Olympics. It'll return on March 3 with Migos as musical guests.
