Jack Antonoff's new album as Bleachers, Gone Now, is out next Friday, June 2. On the strength of the Carly Rae Jepsen collaboration "Hate That You Know Me," the Lorde-featuring "Don't Take The Money," and the heartbreaking "Everybody Lost Somebody"—a track that hasn't come off rotation since its release two weeks ago—his second LP looks set to be his best yet, a full realization of Antonoff's 80s pop ideals and rapturous songwriting."I Miss Those Days," released this morning as Zane Lowe's World Record on Beats 1, follows the thread nicely. Again, there's a brilliantly simple horn riff—more sax this time—and some effortless melodies from Antonoff. It is—no prizes for figuring this out—an explicitly nostalgic track, which makes perfect sense for the 33-year-old, who keeps one fixed on the past. But what might sound trite in someone else's hands is engrossing when Antonoff sings it. "We talk about getting older / But there's so much we haven't done yet," he sings over a bright acoustic guitar before the echoing drums that he deploys so precisely kick in.
