Goth Industrial: Even More Metal in 360 Degrees

"Our project is constantly looking to transcend media in the most sensorially abusive ways possible," explains 3TEETH frontman, Alexis Mincolla.

Hold on to your helmets, you can now phone-in your live concert experience. At the Resistanz Festival in the UK, LA-based industrial act 3TEETH performed a blistering set, treating festivalgoers to a half hour of thundering kick drums, chugging guitars, and metal-grinder squeals from frontman Alexis Mincolla, with the kind of intensity that you could excitedly tell your friends about—maybe even show smartphone photos to—but ultimately never relive. Except, thanks to 360-degree video, you can.

"A friend of a friend, this guy named Carl [Guyenette, a VFX artist], who looks like he walked out of year 2079 had a crazy camera on his head that looked sort of like this," Mincolla tells The Creators Project. "[He] was telling me how he was going to shoot our show in 360°. He then loaded it into his Samsung mobile VR headset and we watched it out near the dumpster."

As far as pairing their performance with 360° video, for 3TEETH, it's an obvious fit. "We have a very tech forward audience, as there has always been a close marriage between technology and industrial music. Our project is constantly looking to transcend media in the most sensorially abusive ways possible," explains Mincolla. "I dont think anything will be able to replace the rawness of our live show but this 360° video technology will only get better and hopefully provide people who might not be able to attend with a better consolation prize."

In the future, 3TEETH plans on pursuing the 360° concert experience at an upcoming festival, using an updated version of Carl Guyenette's video rig—which you can see below—as well as what Mincolla calls "a sort of Second Life experience music video where you can really immerse yourself in an environment." If the video above is any indication, the future looks pulverizing.
