Hurricane Stan Took My Home But Not My Toys

In 2005, after Hurricane Stan inflicted flooding and mudslides on Guatemala's mountainous area, hundreds of families were put up in a temporary housing shelter in the town of Panabaj. I lived in the nearby town of Santiago Atitlán around that time, so, in 2007 and early 2008, I spent some time visiting the shelter, taking photos of the people who called it home and teaching their children photography.

In late 2008, soon after I finished my project, the families began to move back into new homes a few miles from where they originally came from.
