Playing Pranks On the Police with Greek Farmers

Three days at Greece's largest roadblock protest.

The region of Thessaly in the north-east of Greece is not only known for its cattle farms, but also for massive roadblock protests set up by farmers on a yearly basis, which end up disrupting the traffic on the national motorway for days. The block of Nikaia in particular has been at the heart of every farmers' protest for the past 40 years. The latest demo – which took place in February 2014 – was one of the largest of the past decade, with farmers from all over the country refusing to budge from their trucks for almost two weeks. VICE Greece spent three days at the roadblock in Nikaia to meet the farmers and hear their demands, but also to feast with them and watch them play pranks on the police.
