Google Promises to Address Glaring Problem with Cheeseburger Emoji

Will they take this opportunity to resolve the logistical issues with their beer emoji, too? Only time will tell.

This morning, anchors on (almost) every news outlet are sweating through several layers of pressed powder as they breathlessly report on the charges facing former Trump campaign advisor Paul Manafort. But at Google's Mountain View, Calif. headquarters, its employees are frantically working to fix a crucial emoji error—or at least, that's what CEO Sundar Pichai was promised is the case.

The debacle started when author Thomas Baekdal tweeted that, for some reason, the cheese on Google's cheeseburger emoji is shown under the burger patty. Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, and pretty much anyone who has ever seen a cheeseburger knows that the cheese should always be on top of the patty, because… well… why would you ever do anything else? Pichai swiftly responded, promising to look into its cheese-and-patty placement immediately. "Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday," he wrote, adding a smiley emoji. "if folks can agree on the correct way to do this!"

To this, I would argue: No, there is only ONE way to do this, much like putting toilet paper on the holder or holding a football for Dolphins kicker Ray Finkle. A quick look at Emojipedia confirms that cheese is shown on top of the beef for every other emoji language (other than Emojidex, which serves its burger plain).

Most Twitter users seem to be in agreement, although a few people did mention that McDonald's puts the cheese under the patties on its signature Big Mac. (MUNCHIES has reached out to McDonald's in the hopes that they'll help us understand why this is the case, but has not yet received a response). And fortunately, FOX News is on the case as well; instead of breaking down the significance of the charges against Manafort and his former associate Rick Gates, the hosts of Fox & Friends opted to report on the cheese controversy.

Regardless of what happens with the cheeseburger, this incident also resurfaces the issues with Google's completely unrealistic beer situation, too.
