Redheaded Elvis and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme wandered out of his snarling hard rock groove earlier this year to score Turkish director Fatih Atkin's revenge drama, In the Fade. Yesterday, the score was quietly released onto streaming services by Milan Records.Film soundtracks tend to make for uneven listening, so it's no surprise that the In the Fade OST lacks coherence. The full songs are Faith No More's "Superhero," Courtney Barnett's "Anonymous Club," Queens of the Stone Age's 1998 cut "The Bronze," and Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li's moody ballad "I Know Places." Homme, alongside fellow QOTSA band members Michael Shuman and Troy Van Leeuwen, crafts gently uncanny pieces for strings and piano. Beneath the acoustics, there's plenty of Homme's semi-tonal melodic sensibility; try the ominous and frustratingly brief "Blood on the Wall," for example.In an interview with Variety earlier this year, Akin explained how Homme came to score the movie.

When I was writing this, I was listening to a lot of music by Queens of the Stone Age. I had the feeling that this could be the music that the character was listening to, It has a self-destructive attitude and somehow the film is about self-destruction. I sent him a very early version of the film. He immediately called back saying he loved it and was blown away and that he would like to put his hands on it. We phoned maybe four or five times, sent 10 emails back and forth and then I had the music. It was a very uncomplicated, fast and very clean process of working.
