Despite His Age, Rob Savage Knows a Lot About Cinema

And more film stuff from the Grolsch Film Works blog.

Earlier this year, VICE Films and Grolsch Film Works teamed up with the directors Harmony Korine, Alexey Fedorchenko and Jan Kwiecinski to make a three-part film called The Fourth Dimension. Now, Grolsch Film Works have a new website where you can find out what they’ve been up to and read/watch interesting stuff about films. Every week we'll be plucking the highlights. This is that.

AN INTERVIEW WITH LISA IMMORDINO VREELAND

We’ve been model spotting on the Tube, photographers have been on permanent frow-watch and there hasn’t been a damn cab to be found in the capital. Yes, London Fashion Week has been doing the rounds yet again. So the timing couldn’t be better for the release of Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel, a tribute documentary to one of the wildest fashion icons of all time: Diana Vreeland. Fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar, editor-in-chief at Vogue and consultant to the Costume Institute at the Met, Diana is fashion’s very own legend. She discovered icons like Edie Sedgwick and Lauren Bacall, styled Jackie Kennedy, hung out with Andy Warhol and somehow still found time to champion the first ever bikini. So yeah, we have her to thank for Ursula Andress’ white number in Dr No. We caught up with director Lisa Immordino Vreeland (Diana's granddaughter) to get you the lowdown.

A LIST OF COMING OF AGE FILMS

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is out soon so we thought it was probably about time we carried out the torturous task of coming up with our top ten coming-of-age films. We thought, instead, that we’d try and bring a few new flavours to the table. So sink your teeth into this tasty bunch. Unless, that is, you’re allergic to films that reflect on those (mostly) awkward years.

LONDON FILM FESTIVAL LINE UP

We hate to say it but summer is officially over, which is a bit of a bummer, right? But hold up. As we don our woolly hats, scarves and trendy-ass long johns, let’s not forget that the London Film Festival is just around the corner and there’ll be plenty of warm London cinemas to park our behinds in. Oh, and the films don’t look too bad either.

Last week we picked just a few films that we were excited about catching at the 56th edition of the festival, but, depending on your tastes, you might want to jot down a few of the films listed below, as there is an insane amount of quality films coming up… Welcome to the season of cinema.

AN INTERVIEW WITH ROB SAVAGE

Having your film’s world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival must be pretty sweet. Cooler, still, would be having your film nominated for Best Debut Feature at the same festival. But experiencing all this at the ripe age of 20 must be… well, that just doesn’t happen, does it? That’s pretty much the story of 20-year-old British filmmaker Rob Savage, whose debut film Strings is due to premiere at Raindance in London next week (28 September). We went for a beer with Rob and discovered that, despite his age, he knows an insane amount about cinema. Look out for this guy, we know he’s gonna go far.
